Welcome to WANDE FIGHT'S FOR SICKLE CELL ANEMIA!

Sickle Cell Anemia is a very painful and debilitating disease that comes from a lack of oxygen getting to the red blood cells. The lack of oxygen results in the red blood cells changing form from a circular shape to a crescent or sickle shape. Once the red blood cells sickle they become sticky and stick to one another causing a clot and lack of blood flow from moving through the veins. This lack of blood flow causes severe pain attacks known as Crises which occur due to the inability of the red blood cells or oxygen to flow freely through the body. There are different types of Sickle Cell but SS is the most severe form. Some individuals who have SS begin to get sick from birth while others may not experience pain till their later adolescence or adulthood. There are others that get sick in their youth and then become pain free. Though they are very few, there are some others that are privileged enough to go through very little pain/not to go through any pain at all.
